The US Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) proposed revision to section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act of 1973 (section 504) prohibits the “use [of] any measure, assessment, or tool that discounts the value of life extension on the basis of disability to deny or afford an unequal opportunity to qualified individuals with disabilities…”.
We support some aspects of this proposal, although as described below, we encourage revision to avoid potentially harming the populations HHS aims to protect.
