CEVR Welcomes 2020 Summer Fellows

CEVR is thrilled to announce the 2020 cohort of Tufts-CEVR Summer fellows. This year, six well-rounded and talented students have been invited to join our center for an 8-week intensive fellowship. These individuals hail from preeminent graduate programs around the country with a focus on public health, health services research, and health policy. This year’s cohort will draw upon their impressive academic and professional experiences to read for CEVR’s CEA Registry and conduct original research of their own.

To get to know the fellows better, we asked them about their research interests, career aspirations, favorite pastimes, and unique experiences. We have shared some of their responses below.

Anton Avanceña

Pursuing a Ph.D. in Health Management and Policy at the University of Michigan School of Public Health

Research interests: Public health/health policy and clinical interventions for alcohol-related liver disease, pediatric conditions, and infectious diseases

Q: If you could share a meal with someone, living or dead, who would it be?

A: My great-great paternal grandfather Ramon (he was chief justice in the Philippines!)

Catherine Gejman

Pursuing an MPH in Global Health at the Harvard T.H. Chan School of Public Health

Research interests: Interventions to address diabetes, obesity, and cancer

Q: What’s a fun fact about yourself?

A: When I was 11 years-old I was really expecting a Hogwarts's letter invitation to arrive to my house.

(Eileen) Jiayi Zhang

Pursuing an MS in Epidemiology at the Harvard T.H Chan School of Public Health

Research interests: Pharmaceutical and other interventions for mental health, infectious disease, and cancer

Q: What’s the first thing you plan to do when you get out of quarantine?

A: A day trip to the beach or the mountains!! I went to college in North Carolina, Wake Forest University. There is a really small forest connected to the back of our campus and we are also only 30 minutes' drive away from Pilot Mountains to go hiking. I have always been excited to come to Boston for graduate school and being able to live in the city. However, this quarantine just made me miss nature a little bit extra.

Aneesha Fathima Syed Mohamed

Pursuing an MS in Pharmaceutical Economics and Policy at MCPHS University

Research interests: Pharmaceuticals for breast cancer, opioid use disorder, Covid-19, and diabetes 

Q: What do you hope to do after you complete your degree?

A: The knowledge that I am consistently acquiring has had an internal significance to my mind or learning connected to it. This program is sure to help me broaden my educational prospects and enable me to understand, relate and develop all the essential skills for conducting decision analysis studies in the economic evaluation of Heath technologies and services. My professional intention is to pursue PhD.

Krutika Jaiprakash Srivastava

Pursuing an MS in Pharmaceutical Economics and Policy at MCPHS University

Research interests: Pharmaceuticals, procedures, diagnostics, and screenings for cardiovascular diseases, pulmonary diseases, cancer, and reproductive health

Q: What’s a fun fact about yourself?

A: I love to dance at home and on stage. My friends always lean on me for choreographing for their wedding or college functions. I love exploring new skills, and have recently been learning to bike. Being associated with an international spiritual organization: Sant Nirankari Mission, I love to selflessly volunteer for the social and spiritual wellbeing of humanity in any possible way.

Pallavi Krishnamurthy

Pursuing an MPH in Epidemiology at Columbia University Mailman School of Public Health

Research interests: Public health and pharmaceutical interventions for cancer and substance use disorders

Q: What do you like to do in your free time?

A: Puzzles! Recently, I have been working on the skyline of New York! I'm also into digital drawings and I am learning to draw cartoons and comics.
