General Summary

The Research Associate will be a member of the Center for the Evaluation of Value and Risk in Health (CEVR), within the Institute for Clinical Research and Health Policy Studies at Tufts Medical Center in Boston. 

The Research Associate will work both independently and with the research team to manage, update, and maintain the Cost-Effectiveness Analysis (CEA) Registry and Global Health CEA Registry. The Research Associate will also develop and implement project research and data analysis plans and contribute text to reports and manuscripts.

Principal Duties & Essential Functions

  • Conception and design of Registry-based research studies as well as develop drafts of manuscripts for submission to peer-review journals.
  • Quality control efforts for Registry data, such as troubleshooting issues with search strategies, data collection, and coding.
  • Analyze large datasets (e.g., health care claims data and electronic medical records) to estimate health outcomes and costs.  Identify appropriate statistical techniques and write programs to conduct data analyses, including descriptive, regression, and survival analyses.
  • Write manuscripts for publication in academic journals and reports for project sponsors, focusing on the background, methodology, and results sections.
  • Determine and program the best way to communicate results, i.e., effective figures and tables to include in talks, reports, and published manuscripts.
  • Assist with grant applications, including the drafting of text, preparation of tables and figures, and preparation of article bibliographies.
  • Responsible for producing other research deliverables (e.g., development of questionnaires and data collection forms) as needed.
  • Project Management, including tracking of internal timelines and engaging with project partners and stakeholders.

Job Requirements

  • Master’s level knowledge of epidemiology, biostatistics, and health economics in general and cost-effectiveness analysis, in particular, is a plus.
  • Experience conducting literature searches and reading academic literature or technical reports.
  • Experience manipulating and analyzing health care data (e.g., claims, electrical health records, or survey data)  using general statistical programming languages (e.g., SAS, STATA, R, etc.).
  • Strong written communication skills, e.g., as demonstrated by a history of major contributions to published reports or manuscripts, and lead authorship of published or unpublished papers or reports that describe original analytic work.
  • Experience analyzing CEA Registry data is a plus.
  • Experience working with decision analysis simulation models is a plus.

Education

MS/MPH or equivalent

Experience

Minimum of two years of experience in public health, health economics, health services research or a related field.
